Data Protector 6.2 is available since weeks with a lot of improved stuff and new features; unfortunately the scheduler (omnitrig) was not improved. To allow backups like: Make a backup on last sunday of month or Make a backup on first sunday of month, I found some usefull stuff at HP… Thanks to some Data Protector guys from US; the hack will work until 2032; of course until this date the new scheduler is implemented within Data Protector.
In the example a full backup on every last sunday of the month will be done.
In this example a full backup on every first saturday of the month will be done.
The schedules can be modifed to allow incremental backups or to change retention periods. To change the retention period you could i.e. add -full -protection -weeks 8
. The two examples can be downloaded below.

“Found som usefull stuff at HP” – I like that comment 🙂
The scheduler needs work on many levels – the hazzle of not being in able to do different retentions within the same consolidation or copy job bothers me more than this issue however.

Is it really a change in 6.2 ?
Hi Stephane, this will work for all Version of Data Protector.
Best regards
Daniel
vielen dank
Gibt es keine Möglichkeit diesen Trick auch bei scheduled object copy zu nutzen?
okay, nehme es wieder zurück… -full durch -start tauschen und alles klappt
wer denken kann ist klar im vorteil
What is bad is that if you mix in the same datalist different retentions, those will go into the same pool, on the same media. Result is that the longer retentions will automatically keep the short retention objects protected too. You will end up wate precious media space.
So what is needed is settings for different protections AND different destination pool.
=> I use my own scripts to schedule, screw the DP scheduler. May it rest in peace.
