Slow backup on Windows 2008 R2

When running Data Protector 6.20 together with a media agent installed on Windows 2008 sometimes you might have a bad backup performance. Sure, this was a known problem when DP 6.20 was launched and it was fixed with patch DPWIN_00516. If you still experience bad backup performance I recommend to again read the description for patch DPWIN_00516; there are a new omnirc variable – OB2IPCNOSENDRECVLOOP=1. When doing backups over the LAN, in addition you should set variable OB2SHMIPC=0 gesetzt to further increase you backup speed.

  4. Hi Daniel, are these parameters usable in 6.11? Experiencing issues on W2008 R2 with slow performance. Unix MA’s are running a triple the speeds on the same hardware platform (IBM X series 3650, dual quad core – and on the same storage network).

    Tried registry parameters for tcp windows, no improvement. They’re file servers, wondering if turning tree walking would help?

  5. Hi Peter, as far as I know these settings are not available for 6.11. But you might have a look at the latest patches for 6.11 (DA / MA) and search in the description of the patch for these parameters.

  6. Hallo zusammen,
    wir haben hier bei uns genau das gleiche Problem. Die Backupjobs der Fileserver und der LUNs auf dem Archivsystem (W2k8R2) brauchen Ewigkeiten bis sie die zu sichernden Daten ermittelt haben (im Schnitt: 39GB/h).
    Aus diesem Grund beendet sich jedesmal der DiskPool_B2D_Writer aufgrund einer inaktivität von 8400sec und der ganze Backupjob bricht ab.

    Bereits getestete omnirc Variablen und sonstige Massnahmen (leider alle ohne Erfolg):
    OB2SHMIPC=0
    OB2IPCNOSENDRECVLOOP=1
    OB2NOTREEWALK=1
    OB2VSS_RESOLVE_BACKUP_LUNS=0

    log in dem Backupspezifikationen ausgeschaltet

    Eingesetztes System:

    Jemand eine Idee, wie ich den DP überreden kann schneller zur sichern?
    Bei einem Datenvolumen von 1,5 – 2,5TB ist der aktuelle Zustand nicht mehr tragbar.

    Über Hilfe wäre ich sehr dankbar.
