Excerpt from the QuickSpecs
In case that multiple systems access the drive in a SAN, the drive extension for UNIX, NAS, SAN (B6953AA) is required. A Fiber Channel point-to-point connection is not considered a SAN.

Thanks to Christian vanHaut, he requested the official answer from HP.
I have the following environment
– a windows cell server
– SQL Server, shared storage, tape lib (with two FC drive). All connected together via SAN Switch.
Now i want to backup over SAN (LAN-free). Do i need to purchase license B6953AA (for UNIX, NAS, SAN) ? or can use license B6963AA(for Windows, NetWare, Linux) to backup?
Please help me to clarify about DP licensing
Hi,
if you have connected the library to a SAN switch, then, yes, you require the licenses for Unix, NAS and SAN. In this case you will be able to share the library to other physical servers as well, allowing for faster backups.
If you connect the library directly to a Media Agent (without a SAN switch), then you can use the Windows drive licenses.

Daniel
@danielbraun: tks for your reply!!
Another question:
Because my cell manager is Windows, so i purchase HP Data Protector Starter Packs for Windows (B6961BA), this part include one drive license 1xB6963AA (for Windows, NetWare, Linux (Intel)). So in my case above, to backup over SAN to Tap lib, i must purchase 2 x B6953AA (for UNIX, NAS, SAN) licenses, right?

Hi, yep, thats right…
