When using the Data Protector VE integration to backup virtual machines and after the installation of patch bundle 8.11 it might happen, that the backup of the virtual machines is not working. The problem occurs on German localized vCenter Servers only, as the root path for the datacenter is reported as “Datencenter”. The solution is to install a hotfix. Log a support case and ask for QCCR2A52103 if you have the same session messages as shown below. A workaround is to open the “Managed Object Browser” on your vCenter server (https://localhost/mob), select “content” and change the group-d1 property from “rootFolder ManagedObjectReference:Folder group-d1 (Datencenter)” to “rootFolder ManagedObjectReference:Folder group-d1 (Datacenters)“.
[Normal] From: BSM@server.doamin "VEPA_TEST" Time: 03.04.2014 17:05:29 Backup session 2014/04/03-40 started. [Normal] From: BSM@server.doamin "VEPA_TEST" Time: 03.04.2014 17:05:29 OB2BAR application on "server.doamin" successfully started. [Normal] From: VEPALIB_VMWARE@server.doamin "/Datacenter" Time: 03.04.2014 17:05:30 Resolving objects for backup on vCenter 'server1.doamin' ... [Major] From: VEPALIB_VMWARE@server.doamin "/Datacenter" Time: 03.04.2014 17:05:37 Backup failed. [Normal] From: BSM@server.doamin "VEPA_TEST" Time: 03.04.2014 17:06:14 OB2BAR application on "server.doamin" disconnected.
Hi Daniel,
can you be more specific about the VEPA problem? Is the problem OS specific or sporadic?
Thanks
Steve
This is wrong information posted here.
If the vCenter is non-localized and English then the MOB content fro group-d1 is named as:
name string “Datacenters”
For the German version it is “Datencenter”
Hi Philippe,
thanks for the information. I modified to “Datacenters”.
Best regards
Daniel
Hi
I have opened a support case, because we have the same issue. HP support told me, that the fix is only for 8.10 and not for patch bundle 8.11. Now I am a little bit confused! Have anyone another info?
Thanks Gottfried Höld
Hi Gottfried,
I installed the fix on a DP 8.11 cell server. Reading the description for the hotfix, it tells you DP 8.11. So maybe you can ask the colleague from support to read the description as well.
Best regards
Daniel
Hello all
Now I need only to know about how to change that property in vCender MOB, any help?
Thanks
Hi Kai,
a good question – maybe you can ask your VMware admin? For me it was easier to just apply the hotfix I mentioned…
Best regards
Daniel
Hello,
My problem (Backup failed) looks similar after upgrading to 8.11 but the vcenter is in french langage. I don\’t understand clearly what is the root cause in the article, only the missing \”s\” in \”DataCenter\” ?
Managed Object Type: ManagedObjectReference:Folder
Managed Object ID: group-d1
childEntity ManagedObjectReference:ManagedEntity[] datacenter-21 (EUCLYDE)
Can you please describe how to make this changes in MOB ?
Hi Thomas,
I’m not sure 🙂 Maybe you can ask your VMware admin?
Best regards
Daniel
