HP releases the new version of Data Protector – version 7.0. starting on 2012/04/16. The download will be available as usual from the HP DP site, orders for DVD media can be placed starting on 2012/05/01. As always, customers with a valid system handle are able to get the new version without additional costs (Passport account required), current licenses will work with the new version.
Version 7.00 is a complete installation (compared to the patch bundle with 6.21) and the most important feature is client side deduplication. The deduplication in version 7.00 is independent from the type of backup, no matter if you backup a filesystem or a database. An additional feature – GRE for Exchange was added which allows you to recover single items from Exchange. Last but not least, the integration of the Autonomy tools into Data Protector is build into this version of Data Protector.
